Stores for Protein Bars

I was wondering what are your options when it comes about buying protein bars. For instance, I like Met-Rx Big100 bars and Sam's Club used to have good deals for those bars, but I haven't seen them selling them anymore. Online prices are a little bit ridiculous and if you find a good price, shipping will kill you.

So for those interested in protein bars high in calories/protein where do you usually buy them and what brands do you like the most?

I tend to buy mine at Target or Kroger, mainly because I'm there a lot. I like Lara Bars, which are not that great on protein but fill me up. I also like a lot of the Cliff bars. I watch for them to go on sale. Kroger sometimes has their bars on sale 10/$10. But I usually prefer a shake over a bar because I try to stay away from to much sugar. Some of the higher protein bars have too much sugar for me. If I'm feeling really industrious I make my own bars.

I buy supplements from Bodybuilding.com, they sometimes have good deals.

I prefer shakes over bars because carbs but vitamin shoppe is a good place to get both

Depends on what you're looking for. I agree with Vitamin Shoppe. Bars can be convienent but expensive and full of things you don't want. Quest Bars reportedly are relatively "clean" and have high protein high fiber (20 protein/17-19 fiber). Lot of fiber. So for a snack/meal supplement they are good. Range in cals from 160 to 210. They are pricey though, but for a bar they are low sugar/net carbs and about the healthiest you can get.

I agree with "justsomerando" about shakes over bars but that's not always the most convienent.

Some Greek Yogurts (Lite - Kroger) are 16 grams protein (6 oz) and 0 fat and low sugar 6 gms for only 90 cals. Not bad and they were costing about 70 cents a piece - now up to about 80 cents. One of those plus one of the Kroger Carbmaster yogurts gives you a total of 22 grams protein, 10 grams sugar, 0 fat, and about 150 cals. Not bad. All together cost 80+40 cents or about 1.20. Easy to carry too. More than 20 -25 grams protein doesn't do you much good all at one time - research shows this. So that's a number to remember if your muscle building.
