Juice Diet Hell!!

Hey All!

I need to vent.

Since I have only lost 3 lbs in the last several weeks (with a few cheats...the holidays and such), I felt like I NEEDED to do something to get myself in gear. Losing weight cannot and should not be this hard for me at 23. I decided to try the 48 hour Hollywood Juice Diet today to lose some lbs, even if it would only be water weight. Halfway through the day, I was feeling sicker than I have felt in a long time. Cramps, nausea, and a splitting headache. Finally, I gave up and ate a lean cuisine. Later, I ate a salad for dinner. Of course, since I ate below 1200 calories, I'm at risk of putting my body into "starvation mode" according to MFP, but, if THIS is not enough calories a juice diet must be 10 times worse.

The juice tasted horrible and once I ate something my body felt way better. I just feel really horrible because I QUIT. I couldn't even fast for one day... and it's really annoying that I've changed my habits a great deal, but I'm not seeing results on the scale. :(

Don't feel horrible. that is a terrible fad diet. It didn't take 3 weeks to put on all our excess weight, so relax and take your time getting it off. You see those ppl who lose 100 lbs in a few months - but their skin doesn't adjust that quick and they have a lot of excess skin. Slow and steady lifestyle choices!

1 or 2 days under 1200 calories will NOT put your body into starvation mode.

Most fad diets make you feel like hell. Some people say you have a bad few days with a juice fast, then you feel "wonderful" but all of my friends on it just felt terrible.

People have lost SERIOUS amounts of weight on MFP, but it does take time. Took me 6 months to lose 20lbs but it wasn't painful. Kick up your exercise and make sure you eat! Just keep the food cals below your target :)

    This ^

Even a guy my size sometimes hits 1200 or under a few times a week with no issues.

This. My husband's whole family (8 of them) did HCG. I had just started counting calories, this was 2 years ago, and I was losing slowly while they were dropping 30, 40, and 50 pounds. I was jealous, but I knew I couldn't just eat 500 calories of chicken and broccoli every day. Now I'm down nearly 40 lbs and at a healthy weight. Every single one of them has gained back all they lost plus more.

Fads don't work. Don't feel bad that it didn't work for you. Take it as a lesson to have more patience and move on.

You are seeing results on the scale though. You've lost 3 lbs in several weeks, despite not being completely on track with Christmas ad everything. Added to that, based on your photo and profile ticker, you don't have a huge amount to lose, so you can't realistically expect to see fast losses.

You won't have put your body into starvation mode or done serious damage eating so little for a short space of time. It still doesn't make juice dieting a good idea though. Your body needs energy, more than you get on a very low calorie diet. It also needs protein, fat and fibre, all of which you can miss out on with such a restrictive diet. You would get a sudden drop in water weight, which is why people love it, but water isn't what most people are trying to lose.

You're 23. How about you do it sensibly, have a moderate calorie deficit and incorporate healthy food and exercise into your life. Take it slow and steady, and lose the weight once and for all. If you buy into the quick fix promises of fad diets and miracle cures, you're setting yourself up for a lifetime of yoyo dieting.

Adjust your expectations, be proud of the pounds you've lost and refocus. You know how to do this, you just need to accept that it takes time, and stay committed. :flowerforyou:
