HRM & running features

My Polar FT40 crashed. Thinking this may be a good time to change models. I do a lot of cross training - only 10-12 miles per week of running at this point. (But I have registered for my first 25k race so the miles will soon be increasing). Debating on the investment of models with speed/cadence/distance/gps. I mostly run indoors at the gym now due to winter weather, but will eventually run more outdoors. Good network of rail-trails here with crossroads every 1/2 to 1 mile so gauging distance isnt too hard. As you can see, I'm not too sold on paying $300+ for those extra features but maybe your perspective will change my mind.
