Hi Hadabetter. The machines give a way to high number. in my case sometimes close to 200 calories more. I've had a HRM for the almost 5 years and use it everytime I workout.
  • I find that depending on the day I can burn up to an extra 2000 calories through exercise. My daily routine is 60-90 minutes on my spinbike at 90 RPM, and then Insanity workout in the PM. I just listen to my body, if I'm feeling worn down then I either drop one or both workouts for the day and pick up the following day.

Just make sure your daily calorie deficit isn't over 1,800 calories (for example, my BMR is about 1,800 calories, I eat 1,500 and burn and additional 500 through exercise; my daily calorie deficit is about 800 calories). When you get closer to your goal weight, your calorie deficit shouldn't be over 1,000 calories. This makes excessive diet and exercise counter productive because your body will feel that it's in starvation mode; you'll start breaking down muscle tissue and hold on to fat.
