Extra cardio--yes or no???

A friend and I have started working out in kind of a "cross fit" type of workout. (example- today is sprints, 50 situp, 50 pushups, 50 lunges, burpees and bench press). I am fairly new to the workout world and am wondering if going ahead and doing one of my DVD (Jillian Michael's 30DS or Kathy Ireland, etc) is a good idea. Would there be added benefit or would it hurt what I am currently doing? Any advice appreciated. Thanks
PS- 41 years old, wanting to lose approximately 35-50 lbs depending on muscle and how it looks when I get there.

Well that depends .. How often are you currently working out? More importantly how do you feel?
The volume of training you can handle is different for every individual. Here are some things to keep you out of trouble
1) Listen to how you feel if you feel exhausted, slight flu like symptoms, or note decreasing performance back off.
2) If you start having nagging pains injuries (not just muscle soreness and a little stiffness) back off
3) if your resting heart rate raises by more than 5BPM or you have a raise in your basil temperature
The key is progression don't jump in full tilt, slowly add duration and intensity to your work. You need to constantly stress the body just a little more to continue to see results. Stress it to much and you will get injured or go backwards.0 -
Mustache has it right. What I do is combine low impact with high. If I am lifting, I warm up on the elliptical. If I run that day, Ill walk as a second workout. When the weather is good, and daylight savings time allows, I almost always add a long walk with my wife and our spoiled dog.0

Unfortunately, I am one of those that likes to see results fast or I get frustrated. I am trying to work on that. I have plenty of energy and I am usually only sore the next day depending on what we do. This time of year it is almost dark when I get home (and like 20 degrees) so for now a walk is out. That would be preferred and hubby and I ride mtn bikes when weather suits---which sucks!!!!! But is kinda fun cause he makes fun of me the whole time.0
