Calorie Calculation

Hi Everyone,
After doing some research on how much I should REALLY be eating each day, I stumbled across this thread from last week (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/843449-which-scooby-calorie-calculator-do-i-use?page=1) where some people were suggesting the most accurate calorie calculators online.
I took the advice of one user and used this calculator - www.scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/ using the Katch-McArdie formula, and used this website to calculate my body fat % to use in that calculation - http://www.gymgoal.com/dtool_fat.html
According to my results, I should be eating about 800 more calories a day than the MFP calculation is saying, is that possible? Right now I'm eating about 1600-1700 calories / day (i'm 5' 10", 225lbs). This calculation says I should be closer to 2400. I am so confused.
I know a HRM is the best way to truly get the number I'm looking for, but that's not in the cards right now. I just want to get started with the best estimate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You will often find discrepancies as one calculator will use a different formula to another. That said, it's your body, no formula is perfect for the individual. So the best way to approach these things is to stick with something for a few weeks and compare yourself to when you started.
Are you losing weight? If you are and you wanted to, keep at it. If you are but you wanted to maintain/gain weight, bump it up accordingly.
Conversely, are you gaining weight? Adjust/maintain depending on your goals
Are you feeling exhausted/drained? This could be a sign of needing a little bit more energy (from calories, not energy drinks!)
At the moment I would say stick with what you are doing if you've been at it for a little while already, purely because it's becoming a habit. I honestly have no idea how many calories someone who is 5' 10", 225lbs should be eating, so stick with something that sounds sensible for you and your goals, and evaluate in a few weeks time.0
