Getting on a roll again, checking essential nutrients too!

My sister is getting active again and that is encouraging me to participate more in my own health and fitness. One thing that came to mind, again, is the importance of what we eat. Or maybe I should say, what our "main" diet needs for good health (or better).
I want to say that I am not always good at eating the right foods. I am not pointing fingers at anyone. I am just writing something that I hope will help us all.
I read a couple of things today about grocery shopping for healthy foods. I also read some on the nutrients our bodies need. There are people that lose weight, a lot of it, and they eat what many call "junk food". But it works for them so they continue. I see some diaries that include daily saturated fats, a lot of sugar, salt etc. Live and let live is what I say, but at the same time I want to give my opinion that may let some people know that eating say, 6 out of 7 days of nutritious, body-building foods would probably be wise for all of us including me. There is so much data to support it. Of course, I am sure there could be some disagreements including those that remind us that the "nutritious" foods we think we are getting are not so, if we go back to the farms etc. where they are raised. And they would be right many times.
I'm just putting a question to each of you that care to research it. What do the foods you eat do to build a healthier you? Or even list some foods that you know do certain things for you or against a healthy body.
I just think so many come here knowing little about weightloss and building a healthier you. I came thinking/believing one thing, if I eat less, I will weigh less, oh yes, and if I exercise my butt off.
Feedback and discussion welcome. By the way, when I was young and invincible, I didn't really believe I would get old, or never gave it much thought. But I believe now it is true that the older we get, the more, good nutrition we need. The more we workout the more of the right foods we need to replenish and build our "nutrition" stores;)
For one example, my sis found her stored walnuts in the freezer. I reminded her a 1/4 cup would supply her with all the omegas she needed for one day. That got me on the roll thinking about foods and how to fuel my bod;) Again, I am not great at this but I want to at least get in what I need so I can hopefully avoid some of the aches and pains of older (LOL, not old you notice) age!
Have a great day all and looking forward to seeing some ideas, input, experience and maybe some "hey, I need to think about that too don't I"!!
Denise PS what do new people come on here writing about most?? That's easy, losing weight. They don't usually come on and ask how to eat right. Only when they have been around and read some info on those that have learned, do they finally start asking about nutrition. I'd love to see it be the opposite, folks caring about what they are eating first, rather then just losing weight. Same old story, "but what kind of weight do you want to lose."
