I'm new to this. I'm Chelsea.
I'm 5'4 and I used to weigh 212 pounds, and am currently down to 184 after a bad breakup and unhealthy eating because of depression.
But now I'm back up and rolling, and ready to lose it the healthy way!
My goal is to get to 140 pounds.
That's a 44 pound weightloss, on top of the 33 pounds I have already lost.

I have no idea how to go about this.
Can someone please please please suggest how many calories I should eat a day? I can't handle eating 1200 so please do not suggest that. My average is 800-900.

Also, how long will it take to lose 44 pounds?

What exercises are best for cardio/weightloss?

Figure out your TDEE... based on your height, weight and activty level and eat a 20% cut off of that number (you can find the calculators all over the internet... I don't have a link handy).

Or set up your profile to lose 1lb per week and eat based on the numbers this website gives you until you are more comfortable with everything.

You really need to eat more, a lot more than 800-900. Set up this site based on your information... add in exercise and you will be good to go.

Aim for 1lb per week weight loss. Some weeks will be more, some will be less, some you will stay the same. Expect a bit of a gain when you start eating more since your body is so used to eating so little.

For exercise walk, run, elliptical, DVD, walk the dog, jog in place, etc... whatever you like and whatever you can do. Focus on weights as well.. lift heavy weights to preserve your muscle while losing fat.

If you really want to lose weight the healthy way, you have to be willing to open your mind to eating more than 800-900 calories per day. Not sure what you're eating but put down the diet, low fat, low cal foods and enjoy real calorie dense foods like eggs, lean meats, nuts, nut butters, etc. That is an easy way to not eat much more food persay but get more of the calories and nutrients that your body needs.

As far as exercise goes, it has nothing to do wtih weight loss, it's about becoming fit and changing your body composition. Pretty much anything that you're willing to stick to long term is good exercise. Walk, run, bike, hike, swim, play tennis, etc. Find something you enjoy and have fun while you burn your calories!

With 44 pounds to lose, 1 pound per week is a good healthy rate until you get down to needing to lose about 25 pounds, then you should aim for 1/2 pound per week. So I'd expect a year or two. No need to rush, just keep making small healthy changes every week and you'll get there in time.

800-900 will put your body into starvation mode and you will not lose much weight once you hit a plateau. Plus, the weight you do lose will be lean muscle and not fat. At least get yourself 1000 calories a day. Protein shakes work for some added calories if you've eaten all you can. You could lose 1-2lbs a week so 44lbs will probably take about 5-6 months. Good luck!

If you "can't handle" 1200 calories a day, then you need to take your question off this site. You won't find anyone who agrees with your methodology.

This site is for people who are losing weight sensibly and slowly, and the minimum caloric intake recommended on this site, based on TDEE, BMR and virtually EVERY person on here who is losing weight in a healthy way, is 1200 OR higher. You are being irresponsible and taking dangerous risks.

That's the simple, honest truth here.

This might sound rude, but I don't mean it that way, but your statement here is either false or you are estimating wrong. The first step to losing weight is to be honest with yourself. Until you can log your calories honestly you are going to have a very difficult time.

Furthermore, eating less than 1200 calories is unhealthy from a nutrient standpoint and you will not get very many constructive replies on this forum if you are wanting people to support a calorie goal of 800 calories/day.

Your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is 1660 calories/day. That is just what your organs need every day to function and does not include even lifting a finger. Assuming that you lead a sedentary lifestyle (most of us do), you need 1993 calories to maintain 184 lbs. So, based on the stats you gave, you have a proven record of being able to eat more than 800 calories/day.

I would suggest that you set up some reasonable goals, start tracking things correctly.
