carbohydrates

I'm very new to this and am finding it very useful. I notice that although apart from last night's night shift lapse, I keep to the net calories target reasonably easily. however, it is clear that i LOVE carbohydrates as I am always over the total.

Has anyone else on here had to fight this? Carbs are the things that make me feel full, I suppose, and so makes it easier to limit calorie intake. Oh dear

If you love carbs and can still meet your fitness targets by eating lots of them, then don't worry too much. If you find it disheartening to see the red numbers in your diary, go to "my home" then sub category "goals". Click on the button to change goals and use the custom option. Here you can play around with the %age split of your calories and how much is used on carbs, how much on protein etc.

first, it depends on what kind of carbs you eat as to whether or not it could have at least a little effect. If you're getting a lot of your carbs from fruit and whole grains I really wouldn't worry about going over your goal. Second, if it bothers you that most of your food is carbs, try eating your protein at the beginning of meals and maybe add a little extra. That way by the time you get around to the carbs side of your plate, you're not as hungry and will eat them in smaller portions.

*also, huge help for night shift - pack a lunch!! It's really made all the difference for me. If you plan ahead and pack healthy food (lots of fruits and veggies and some protein and fat to fill you up) you're much less likely to decide you need to impulse buy unhealthy foods. If you've got a major sweet or salty tooth, pack a "fun size" candy bar or 10 pretzles.
