Maybe a Stupid Question.....

Ok, I know to some of you this may sound absolutely ridiculous, but if so, dont answer.
Ok, so if I eat a larger meal, I eneded up approx 400 calories over yesterday, and then I used the elliptical for 30 minutes, but only logged half those calories, so I think MFP determined I was over by approx 200-300
ANYWAY
I weighed myself this morning and I was .6 over what I was yesterday... I KNOW I shouldnt weigh myself everyday, but its a TERRIBLE AND HARD habit to break. Do you think the weight gain was just natural body fluctuations and I may still lose? I mean It takes 3500 calories to make a lb of fat, so surely I would have had to eat half that and not burn anything yesterday to gain that right?
Im just trying to not to feel discouraged from that little weight gain If I dont see that scale move down every morning, I usually want to give up

0.6 lbs is just measurement error or water. It sounds like you still ate at a deficit yesterday, so you probably lost a little fat.
btw, weighing daily isn't a "terrible" habit. It is actually the best thing you can do as long as you don't get stressed out about a measurement.

It is going to be water weight either from sodium in your food or from working out. If you are not used to working out on the elliptical, it is very possible your muscles retained water. Just remember, the scale is not our friend. Take measurements and pictures also to track your progress. Best of luck to you!0

Yes! Your body will fluctuate. And it could be many things: water weight (drinking too much water, too much sodium), not eating enough fiber to make you regular (which then can leave you constipated and heavier), etc. The daily weight isn't as big a deal as weighing every week or so.
I'm in the process of trying to break the habit of my daily weigh-ins and so far, I have not been successful. BUT the big habit I *have* broke is worrying about if I go up a little bit on any day. I just look at my weekly stats and feel a lot better about myself.
Hope you have a great week!!!0 -
.6 lbs is nothing to worry about. Your weight fluctuates during the day, pay more attention to the mirror and how your clothes fit and less attention to the scale.0

Quit weighing constantly and if you over eat even 3500 calories your body doesn't immediately transfer it into fat cells. It all has to be processed before anything is going to happen. You may not lose everyday. It just doesn't happen that way. You have to look at weight loss as a long term plan not something you measure hour by hour.0

Water. With increased food intake, your body needs more water to process it.0

I like weighing myself every day - I find the fluctuations reassuring, not threatening, because any one measurement is no big deal. Everyone's different.
It takes 3500 calories to build a pound of fat. You didn't do that yesterday. It's natural fluctuation.
I'm going to a restaurant for lunch today for a work meeting that is high in sodium. Nothing I can do - I've been checking their menu online. I've eaten there four times in the last two weeks. I will gain 2 pounds tonight from salt. It's happened every time I go. It will be gone by tomorrow night if I drink enough tea or water. Just go with it.0 -
Here are mine $0.02
First of all from the 3500 calories burned, not entire 1LB is fat. If you not careful and starve yourself, you can lose muscle tissue. It is safe to say that from 1 LB, the 80% will be fat and the other 20% muscle.
Don't dwell on the daily numbers. You will have birthdays and office parties, so you will be over your daily many times throughout your program. You will have your plateaus more than you will want, but if you stay focused, you will win. Yes, your weight gain is water retention, extra food, blah, blah.. No worries.
Weigh yourself every day if that is what you want. I do it twice per day, just so i know what that all-you-can-eat sushi buffet will do to me the next day. I've been on this for 18 months now and if I can offer you a single encouraging comment it will be: Stay focused on your goal. Do your diet thing, whatever it is. Exercise and exercise hard if you can. And monitor your progress closely. Good luck to you.0 -
I weigh daily, but only track my weights on Thursday mornings. Like everyone else has said, try not to stress over 0.6. Just keep doing what you're doing and the weight will come off.0
