Protein, what are your limits?

For some reason my food diary has my protein set at 54g. EVERY day I go over that. Is that bad? Am I hindering my weight loss by going over my protein? I don't know that I could cut out any more of my proteins...aren't they good for us to get?

Any insight into this would be great. If I do need to cut back on my protein, I guess I will have to try.

Thanks!

Don't cut back on protein. The "safe" range for protein consumption over any extended period of time is 10-35% of total calories. MFP sets Protein pretty low, based on gov't recommended amount.

If you workout at all, protein on MFP is quite low, you can go to Home, goals, click change goals, check custom, and increase the % protein and decrease either carbs or Fat then save changes. You can try increasing by 5% first for a week or so and see how that fits and if further change is needed make it at that time

I recently posted the same thing, and I think the general concensus was that it isn't bad. what they give you I think is a minimum for what you need. Your body just gets rid of what it doesn't use. No harm no foul. I think as long as you are spacing it out during the day and not getting it all at once you are good to go.

I actually upped my protein limit on MFP. If you're working out, then you need that extra protein to help rebuild. I also noticed that when I raised it, the last 10 pounds last year were easier to lose.

OK I went in and changed my protein to 30% My carbs to 50% and my Fats to 20%....and all of a sudden all my numbers are in the green!!!! I can do this! Thanks for your input! I do workout 5 days a week and sometimes throw in some extra on weekends, so I guess I need the protein...
