  • It really depends on the Thai restaurant. Thai food generally uses more spices and seasonings for taste, but some dishes can use oils. My favorite is Ginger Chicken, aka Pad King. It's chicken and a variety of veggies stir fried. There may be some oil in it, but overall I think it's pretty healthy. Enjoy! If you like spicy food, you'll be hooked for life.

Well a lot of coconut milk is used in thai dishes, particularly curry but also other dishes. o in general avoid those :)

I love tom yam soup though and fill up on that, it has coconut milk in it, but not a lot, it's lovely and spicy and fills me up enough that I won't gorge myself on too much rice etc, which although steamed rice is healthy overall, it is high in calories.

Then probably for main a dish of chicken with ginger and mixed vegetables maybe? I am not sure of the name of that dish, I do have a menu somewhere, I think it may have been called Pad King as stated by msrichmond actually now I think about it! lol

I'd watch out for some of the noodle dishes, too. The sauces tend to be fairly sweet (like in Pad Thai or Pad See Eaw). Obviously fried rice isn't great either...

I try to stick to the meat dishes and add extra veggies. I also pull the meat & veggies out of their dishes so less sauce is on them than if I just ate straight from the serving plate. (It may not really work, but I feel like I'm doing some good) I love the fresh spring rolls; they aren't fried and have some veggies and protein in them, but are made with rice paper and sometimes thin rice noodles inside. They're good to share. Chicken satay isn't too bad, just be weary of the peanut sauce.
  • Some Thai restaurants will cook with Splenda rather then sugar. Try to request it.

Also, Panang Curry is not heavy on the Coconut milk, but it absolutely delicious. I always order wide rice noodle(plain) and love it.
  • Som tam/ papaya salad is low in calories, low in fat, & tasty if you want to order a salad.
