Lower my cardio and up my weight training

Currently I do 30 mins cardio and 30-45 mins lifting 3 days a week and an hour of cardio 2 days a week. I am not perfect, there are days when I just dont get a workout in. I would love to work out more but at this point that is what I can fit in my day.
I try to eat clean.
I have lost 78lbs since Oct 2011. However I have only lost 2lbs since 12/20. I expect the weight to come off slower at this point.
I am getting married in Sept and really want to be toned all over. I carry my weight on my hips legs and butt.
My question is, should I spend less time doing cardio (typically running) and more time lifting. I recently increased my calorie intake from 1200 to 1500-1600 (roughly a month ago). Should I be eating more or maybe less? My TDEE is 1942 and my BMR is 1618.
I use a HRM to track my calories burned so I know that is pretty accurate. Its a crapper to see low numbers when I lift, but I know building muscle will burn fat

I'm sure you'll get all kinds of answers but whatever your schedule you probably need to increase intensity. Lift progressively heavier, add HIIT, incline or other things to your cardio to make it more intense.
Also, HRM don't give accurate readings for most strength training. They are meant to measure calories burned for aerobic exercise.0 -

i have found that ive lost more fat by dropping cardio and doing weight lifting only. i eat the same as i did before doing cardio.0

im not sure i would bother with calories burned while lifting as it wont be much. youd have to lift for hours. just eat right someone once told me in terms of weight loss cardio is only good for the calorie deficit (this is aside from the obvious heart health benefits)

HIIT is High Intesity Interval Training. It's doing exercise for short bursts at the highest intensity you can, then going to a slower pace for a short interval, then back to high, repeat. There are various ways to to do it. You can do a running HIIT by sprint/walk or sprint/jog. Plyometrics make good HIIT workouts. An internet search will give you a variety of HIIT workouts to choose from.
Weights are great, but don't ignore cardio.0 -
i recently hit a wall myself. I was doing more aggresive style cardio mixed with long distance (all cardio was running). I recently started running slow, but for time of 45 min on M/W/F. That evening 35-45 minutes elliptical + Abs. T/TH/Sa i bike 45 minutes in morning and lift heavy in evening. Typically T = Chest/Bis, Th = Back Shoulders and Tris, Sat is legs, Sunday rest. It got me going again which was surprising, you know, going from a 7:30 - 8 minute mile (fast for me) for 30 minutes or so to 45 minutes at a 10 minute mile. However, the bike, elliptical and heavy weights are all new (i was doing circuits with weights ~HIIT ) so not sure which, or combination kicked in more weight loss. Nevertheless, i needed a change in my routine. If you have been doing similar to what i am on now (slow and steady), I'd highly recommend doing some HIIT 2 maybe 3 days and mix in some heavier weights on alt days, doing HIIT and lifting heavy is sometimes hard to schedule so think it through or search what others are doing and experiment. Shock your system. I'll stay on this routine until i see progress slowing and then change it again. Its easy to get in a routine you enjoy and it seems like your body just goes on auto pilot after a certain duration. And wow, congrats on the 78lbs!0

I do think that is the real ticket, just changing my routine. I like the idea of lifting heavier and lifting more often and adding HIIT with my cardio workouts. Time to make a new game plan!! I will start insanity in March which i am looking forward to, maybe that will help as well.

Insanity is crazy cardio. I didn't see much of a change with Insanity other than endurance went way up for me. But I wasn't looking to lose at that point I had hit my goal, but I wanted to up my intensity. I have to say I loved it though. I now do that once a week with heavy lifting. You also need to make sure you are fueling your body for your workouts.0
