I LOVE my MFP family. I love you all so much. But how do I make friends (particularly the guy persuasion) at the gym? I'm generally friend and personable, but when I'm working out, I feel awkward? I dunno. They give me weird looks, and I just try to smile, you know? The older guys (gives me the skeeves, btw) are usually really nice. It's the young adults/teens that look at me odd. I dunno if it's because I'm "cute" or if they don't think I "belong" there. I don't know. I don't want to be one of THOSE people at the gym where all they do is talk to the people working out, but I want to get to know people. We are all working toward some kind of goal and I just want to make some friends. How do I go about doing that?

I find the best way to meet people at the gym is to take a fitness class. I take zumba and bootcamp classes and have met a lot of people. When we are working out in class and get tired, one of us have to tell the other "you can do it!" or "you got this!"
Just start up conversation during the beginning of the class or afterwards and you can even ask them "Hey, I'm really trying to lose ____ lbs and need a motivation partner. If you see me getting tired, feel free to yell at me "YOU CAN DO THIS"" Most people won't oblige.
I was never able to meet people at the actual "gym-gym" unless you want to count those guys who are always trying to hit on someone. The gym just doesn't have that meet-a-friend atmosphere to me.
Hope that helped! Feel free to add me as a friend on here too!0 -
Looking to make friends at the gym is liking me looking to find a girlfriend at a strip club. Gym time is serious buiness and I prefer not to be bothered. I would suggest not trying, just keep going and I would assume at some point someone will strike a conversation with you.0
