Upping calories to prevent a cold?

I am seriously considering going totally off plan today to avoid getting the cold that is present in my household. As the mom in the house I am probably the single person who cannot afford to get sick, no sick pay for me, and no breaks or days off EVER...right!

So anyways, I've been very hungry for the last few days but sticking to calories as planned and now someone has come down with symptoms so since I'm a firm believer that eating and resting a lot can conquer an impending cold or flu, that's my plan. Anyone else had the same experience or kept an illness like this at bay by just adding more calories but staying on plan? How many calories did you add as compared to your regular intake. I may up them a percentage of my daily calories if I think that sounds like it's worked for any of you.

(Really, today no smart *kitten* answers, with the chaos that sick family brings and the time suck all that creates, I don't have time to filter through insults or pranksters on here....save shenanigans for the chit chat boards please.)

OHHHHH IK THIS ONE!!!! My sister in law told me (shes a pharmD) when your body sences there uncommon things in you system (like viruses floating around) its a natural instinct to just fight them off and so it goes to work.....when you feel hungry like you said its your body telling you that it needs help to fight them off BUT you dont have to go over your calorie goal to do so....your body is telling you its hungry hoping youll give it what certain vitamins or things it needs (thats where the cravings come from when your pregnant your body needs certain things to keep it healthy) so just eat fruit, veggies, whole grains....all those good things and go from there! If you ever have cravings FOLLOW THEM lol likeeeee when you want something sweet your body usually wants chromium which is in grapes or craving chips you actually want calcium so eat milk or broccoli!

    Hope that helps! :)

sounds about right. I was craving doritos up the yin yang but disciplined myself to wait for my dinner meal as planned and it consisted of 3 cups of broccoli. Felt so much better after but thought it was just cause I'd eaten and even held the brown rice responsible for my satisfied feeling. Without diverting my brother from his lawyer fiancee to a pharmD one so I can have a sister in law in the know too, any idea where I can find out more about what cravings represent what needs your body has?
