Gluten-Free May Not Be For Me... Can't get rid of bloat

I have been struggling with losing the last 10-20 pounds for about 3 years now, fluctuating the same 5-7 pounds and I although I never felt sick after eating gluten, I thought my constant bloat and distended belly could be because of gluten. I thought I would see if anyone else has similar issues, and what they have done to get the scale moving again (or at least drop 1 to 2 sizes).

So, it's day 18 of my gluten-free diet and here's my report:

#1) 5 pound gain on the scale, interesting
#2) realize that I don't really eat much gluten in the first place, with the exception of the odd meal at my parents or restaurant
#3) bloating has not subsized at all - is 3 weeks too early?
#4) could just be the weather, but I've been exhausted since January 1st, again, interesting (I don't usually feel tired until Friday)
#5) am beginning to wonder if my problem isn't gluten, but DAIRY, which I eat at almost every meal - note that I don't ever get sick, so I can't imagine all this bloating being from an "allergy"
#6) I do drink a lot of water

With the exception of candy, fro/yo, I am a fairly healthy eater. I don't think I have ever had an issue with the amount of exercise I get either, my diary is open if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you took out all gluten? There is gluten in a lot of things.

You could have a wheat sensititivty? Not sure if you have tried that before.

Dairy can cause problems for some people. I worked with a guy who was bloated all the time but was never sick. It turned out he had an issue with lactose that caused him to be bloated.

Are you regular? Could it be a constipation issue?

Try adding gluten back in and see what happens. Maybe try cutting out dairy and see if that helps.

Another thing to try would be to add a probiotic to your diet daily. You can get it in yogurts (not good if you want to try cutting out dairy though) or you can take a pill version of it. I do and have noticed my bloat is down significantly.

Another issue could be sodium. DO you eat many packaged or frozen foods? Sauces? Those types of things. Are you drinking enough water?

Sometimes people experience bloat when adding more fruits and veggies to their diet due to the added fibre and not enough water.

Your diary isn't open so I can't comment on that.

If you add gluten back in, and cut out dairy and it doesn't help. Try having both in your diet and add a probiotic in along with extra water. If that doesn't help you might need to see a doctor to see what the issue is.
