Subtracting Fiber Intake From Daily Carb Intake

I was reading the attached article which states that those who watch calories and eat a lot of fiber can deduct the fiber count from the carb count. Anyone interested can read the attached. Before I get happy, I need one of our experts to weigh in because somedays I can easily triple my daily fiber allowance.
The article does not go into specifics but what would be the benefit of doing this?
