I have to go have dinner with my family at a Mexican restaurant in about an hour and a half. I have no idea what to order. Thankfully, I just woke up so I'm not very hungry but I just don't know what the healthiest choices are. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Some type of salad with grilled chicken? Fajitas without too many tortillas? Not sure what all you're trying to avoid other than just a massive amount of cals.

Fajitas or something grilled. There is usually seafood as well. Just skip the refried beans, high cheese content items and don't have too many chips.

Ask for chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. Count your chips--I think 9 is a serving.
Limit cheese, sour cream, and queso. Stick with salsa, fresh avacadoes instead.

    Take half your portion home!
  • They have salads at most Mexican restaurants. When I go to a restaurant it is defiantly more of a caloric treat for me. Guacamole salad with rice and refried beans. One tip, don't eat the chips. Calorie bomb. I would say fajitas would be a good option as well. :) Good luck, have fun!

Fajitas without butter. (A lot of times the "sizzle" of the platter is fake liquid butter dumped on just before serving.) Also don't get peppers or onions- a lot of restaurants they are deep fried and not grilled.

Oh yes--I'd skip the beans, ask for no butter on fajitas, and drink water!

My Mexican restaurant offers a chicken salad or a shrimp salad. I usually skip the chip and salsa to conserve calories as I don't like light dressing.

Oh wow, I feel like a complete dumbass. I had actually forgotten that they even serve salads since I had never ordered one from there....lol Thanks so much!! I wanted to avoid massive calories and as much fat as I could. I'm pretty sure they use a gallon of lard for every meal they cook.

Seriously about the butter? Now I'm sad. I've been ordering fajitas as my healthier option for quite a while and never realized that. And I should have figured it out...my husband is in food service. Grrrrr. Well, now I'll make it a point to ask the server for information and options.

I will often get one taco (no cheese with lettuce, tomatoe, salsa) and then eat a side salad and use salsa as the dressing. And, limit the chips. They can be addicting when you're chatting with friends. :)
  • Oder caldo de pollo or res which is Mexican chicken or beef Broth/soup with tons of veggies grilled chicken / fish Baked beans instead of fried side salad add salsa or squeeze a lemon on it .

BTW ask for cucumber slices is you want something to crunch on . We eat them with lemon and powdered chili

i dont hink chile con carne would be too bad .. with rice even .. as long as the prtions arent too huge
I would avoid the wraps and especially the cheese sauces
other wise anything heavily tomatoe would be good
salads have to be a great option
