Is it detrimental to my weight loss if I go over my protein pretty much every day?

    No, as long as you are still in a caloric deficit it will not hurt weight loss.

    Well, in the sense that your usual dieter thinks about protein, yes.

    Protein is the lowest calorie macro nutrient and helps preserve muscle mass

    you look like you lift heavy so you already know this

    Actually, protein and carbs are both 4 cals per gram. Protein intake + heavy lifting helps aid in muscle retention, and muscle retention has nothing to do with simple weight loss. And having a calorie surplus, even if it's from protein will cause weight gain.

    Protein expends more energy to digest than fat or carbs, ie the thermal effect of food
    Protein does have the same effect on the appetite as carbs
    Protein's role in preserving muscle will by extension preserve the BMR of someone who'd normally lose it to dieting

    this is all assuming that you up your protein ratios, not your calories ingested. Eating protein above your calorie goal would obviously hurt weight loss :|
