question about c25k

I've started the c25k program and I'm having issues with my left leg, it starts burning and feeling "bruised" wayyyy before any other part of my body is ready to stop. I literally feel like I could go forever except in my left leg (SO frustrating) anyway I recently read that running when you're overweight (unless you're already very strong) is bad for you because of the impact on your bones. SHould I be working on strength before starting this program? I mean, I work on my strength a bit but my goal is more towards being able to run. Do you think I should stop until I'm stronger or just keep up with the program ?
