The biggest loser shouldn't put you down EVER!

I myself find the biggest loser quite a good show however when it comes to the end of the week, after everyone has done their last chance workout, fellow peers may feel they haven't done as good as they thought.
Well here's the thing, the biggest loser camp is almost like a science lab experiment, all the contestants live in a controlled room whereby the calories they consume and workouts they do are strictly monitored...also the calories they do consume aren't even recommended by health standards (don't forget, it's a tv show trying to make money) that's why the scenarios presented like so and so losing 44 pounds in 7 days should be taken with a grain of salt - if that!
In addition, we live a life whilst trying to lose/maintain weight with everyday stresses that come with it... For them, all their efforts aren't placed on "omg I've got to get to work now", no it's oh, time to lose weight in the gym... See, their mindset is far different as they have just one task on hand.
Why do you think only a small percentage of contestants is able to steer clear of gaining/maintaining their end weight, it's because a large majority is hit with a shock that after the show, no one is going to purchase foods which are low in kcals or force you to go to a gym.
So now tha my rant is over, I hope you appreciate that this show isn't true to life, unless you are very rich and have a chef that makes your perfect diet and personal trainer !
If you lose 1kg per week well done, if only 0.1kg well done... You are integrating your weight loss with your lifestyle, and that is whats valuable!

Thank you for posting this! You might be interested in this story of a former contestant - Kai Hibbard from season 3. She is one of the very few that have spoken out about the truth of The Biggest Loser.

I definitely agree with all the above.
I still feel slightly jealous of biggest loser contestants though, as the challenges look like so much fun!
plus it would be a luxury to be able to concentrate solely on food and fitness, rather than trying to cram it into the week and budget!0 -

Wow...just wow. I knew The Biggest Loser pushed everyone hard, but this is pathetic. No wonder most of the contestants gain the weight back after the show. Thanks for providing that link. I will never watch this SHAM of a show again. The producers and trainers should be ashamed of themselves! :mad:0 -
Just read the article...horrifying!0

I watch the show while I walk the dreadmill. It's entertaining and can be inspiring. I see it as entertainment, not a lifestyle model.
I knew from the get-go that there was no way they were going to teach the contestants, or me, real workable skills for daily weight management. How could they? It's not really about the long term success of the contestants. It's about keeping viewers interested with controversy, emotion and drama. It's about ratings.
Too bad there isn't more "after care" for the contestants.0
