what the hec is 'bump'?

So I may be way behind the times when it comes to computer language, bu can someone please tell me what it means to 'bump'

    When you "bump" a post on a message board, it puts it up to the top. Some people bump to get the post noticed or so it will appear in their "My Topics" tab to read later.

    I always thought it meant bum-pee ofcourse with the ee's removed at the end, but hey that's just me.:laugh: man I'm funny.
