Period like pain when running???

Hi there, I guess I just want to know if anyone else gets this and any tips you might have to pushing through or minimising it?
I always run on an empty tummy first thing in the morning to try an avoid it but occasionally (once a month, no particular time) I get a terrible pain in my lower tummy and have to lie down in intense pain and wait until it goes away (usually 30mins) once I cool down it just disappears.
It normally gets worse when I stop running, but I feel it building up and know to stop.
I don't run far or fast (5km in 30mins) but this really hinders my progress and I constantly worry about it kicking in.
Could it be at all related to core strength? I know my diet isn't the best but my diet is fairly constant and I don't normally have an issue.

For me, it's a sign that I didn't properly hydrate.0

I used to get pains exactly like that, back when I ran less than sporadically. As I got into better shape, I stopped getting them. I actually forgot I used to get them until I read your post.
How often do you run?0 -

Does this also include diareah? That kind of cramping? I had it when I ran (it was very painful) and saw my Dr, she put me on the pill to correct the problem (uterus microscopicly growing where it wasn't suppose to) and it helped me. Sorry for the spelling errors.0

I've got an appointment at my GP tomorrow, was going to bring it up again with her.
I find it doesn't happen every run, and never seems to matter what time of the month it is. I also find that walking doesnt always help either....0
