Pulled chest muscles . What exercise can I do ?

Hello , I pulled or tore muscles in my chest a couple months ago and it still hurts . I keep exercising and lifting heavy things like cases of water and full kerosene cans . It is having a hard time healing . I need to do cardio . All my workout DVDs have arm work involved . It's too cold to walk outside . My treadmill broke . I did order an exercise bike that should be here in 7-10 days . What can I do in the meantime ? I need to do some sort of exercise every day to keep my glucose level in check .

  • Are you even able to lift your arms?
  • Yes . I can lift my arms . I tend to push through the pain but I suffer the next few days . My husband is getting angry with me . He keeps saying your never going to heal if you keep up with what your doing . I started the 30 day shred last week . I used 3 pound hand weights . I got through day 2 of level 1 . I moved my broken treadmill out of the living room and into a spare room Friday . I think that's what messed me up .
  • Go see a doctor and take it easy
  • I have seen my family doctor . He said it was inflamed chest wall / pulled muscles. He told me to take ibuprofen . He wasn't very helpful regarding this . I may need to go to a new doctor . I have read that chest muscles take a long time to heal .

If you want to ever be able to lift in the future, you need to let it heal.
  • I know I need to let it heal . What kind of exercise can I do while I'm letting it heal ?

Most cardio should be fine and lower body should be fine. I would say try to listen to your body, if it hurts stop instantly and modify it till you feel no pain when performing the movement or you will never heal! Cardio could be things like light shadow boxing, running on the spot, jump ropes with very little arm movement
