Net calories.

Ok this may seem silly but I was just thinking about the whole net calories thing. If I'm eating just over 1200 calories per day but burn something like 250 calories in exercise, my net calorie intake is 950....is it bad to have under 1200 net calories per day? Will it put a person in starvation mode? If I workout more should I make sure to eat more? Any help would be wonderful and thanks in advance! 8D

Net at least 1,200 calories a day.

1200 is already low for most. You should be netting at least 1200 most days. But in my opinion, this is probably too low.

1200 calories is the figure that most people get given from MFP, but it is not necessarily the right amount of calories your body needs.

Find out your BMR and TDEE numbers to assess your calorie goal. It is far healthier and more sustainable for the long term.

The following link provides all the information and calculators you will need.

OP In answer to your question, at the very least your body needs 1200 NET (and maybe lots more dependent on the figures you get using above link) eating way below what your body needs causes it to hang onto everything it can, literally for dear life, as it does not know when the next lot of energy is coming. Give your body the correct amount of calories/energy and once it realises that it is going to get this consistently, it will start to release what it does not need.
  • Thanks for the responses. It helps a lot. I think i need to bump up my calories but will have to get a tape measure so i can figure out the exact numbers.

Here's a link to a site where you can plug in your height, weight and gender to obtain your daily calorie requirements. I enter myself as sedentary and manually calculate my daily activity

Thanks for posting! It looks like I needed to adjust my settings a little bit. So that's done and now we'll see what happens!
