Saved my calories for big dinner out, which is canceled

Dinner was canceled and I saved my calories all day for a nice dinner. Now what? So far today, I've had:

Green tea
1 egg, 1 egg white
1/2 t. olive oil
1 slice multigrain toast
apple
1 cup V8
a big plate of grilled asparagus
2 chicken dumplings

I have 1400 calories left for the day! What do I eat now to stay relatively on track and not just go overboard with junk to fill the calories?

What would you have made if you were not going out in the first place? Pasta, homemade pizza, roasted veggies and meat?

Eat whatever you normally eat, then treat yourself to a nice dessert.... mmmm cake, or icecream or both!

Or eat calorie dense foods at home - cheese, proteins, fats, etc.

Ok well first, just remember that you don't have to be super strict with your calories in a 24hr time period. I know we all forget that. But you CAN have a meal that puts you under your goal and then have a larger breakfast and it will be totally okay. Does that make sense? I had a couple days last week that were under and I just couldn't find anything in my fridge/cupboard that would get me to the calories I needed without wrecking my fat or carb limit. So I had a bowl of Special K and milk and then had a fabulous huge egg white omelette in the morning. One day was low and the next high but they evened each other out. Kind of a 'big picture' kind of thing.

Mac and cheese! Add in some protein, too. ;)

eat until you are satified, let yourself have a treat... but I would not feel obligated to eat all the calories..

My home food is all pretty low-cal, and tomorrow is grocery day. No cake, out of cheese!

I made black bean and sweet potato soup for the family, but that's eaten up... by the family. :) I was supposed to go out with a friend, so the kids and husband fed. I feel weird about going out by myself.

DH suggested I go to McDonalds, but I'm really trying to avoid crap food and make better choices. I'm just not sure how to make good choices in this situation!

I like the idea of having a smaller dinner and bigger day tomorrow - easier to add throughout the day than overindulge tonight trying to eat enough!

D you have any pasta at all? It can be quite good with just some butter/oliveoil and a side salad with a nice, homemade dressing. Also, peanut dressings made of peanut butter can get calories and healthy fats up there.

But yes, I would recommend having a higher day tomorrow instead of trying to stuff yourself. ;)

Just make a meal from whatever you have in the house. Nothing wrong with a couple of fried eggs on toast, or a nice omelet or even peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat bread. It really won't derail your eating plan if you are under calories tonight.

Okay, I'm having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, green beans, and chocolate milk - what I have in the house on grocery-shopping-eve!

    Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
