People who were already athletic before you started MFP?

So, I'm the person who was already pretty athletic before I started MFP, I have a decent amount of muscle mass and I exercise and play sports all the time. The only problem was really my diet and that I ate A LOT of bad foods. The only weight I'm trying to lose right now is 15-20 pounds, but I find that it is coming off VERY slowly.

Is there anyone else like this?

How long did it take you to lose what you have lost now?

I wasnt really "athletic" but I am in the military and I always make weight and scrape buy on pushups. I want to lose 20 lbs and it is coming off really slowly. It is super annoying. I lost 5, gained 5, lost 2...so I am down 3 after 20 days! I never went over my calories and I started working out again. My friend on here said when you start working out your bosy holds water to use it for your muscles. I think thats why i gained 5 back. She said set you goal to 1 lb a week since your calories arent that high to begin with. When I was at 2lbs a week i started gaining. She is in her 40s and has a bomb 6 pack and eats icecream so I took her advice haha.
  • I've always been a gym rat for most of my life, and the decision to trim down was helped a lot by the app.

I was built like a tank, always strong. But now I'm fit and strong. I like my current shape.

I only planned on losing 20 lbs when I started. I lost consistently since I really started to push myself to log every thing. The one bad part about losing fat is I easily lost 10 lbs of muscle dieting too. I am ok with that though since I don't have a reason to be super muscular. But just something to note when you cut out calories you will probably lose some muscle as well.

The amount of fat mass we can lose in a 24-hour period depends on our total fat mass. If you have a favorable body composition to start with - ie. low body fat - then you won't oxidize as much fat compared to someone with significantly more fat mass. After finishing a bulk, I had about 10 lbs of fat to reduce, so I just ate 250 to 300 calories below my actual TDEE of 2900. It goes by slow (0.5 lbs per week), but I like it that way since a larger deficit would lead to greater loss of lean body mass. I have about 5 more lbs to go and should hit my 7% body fat goal in another 7 weeks or so.

I was always athletic in the sense that sports came more naturally for me. No matter what I tried, I had aptitude for it, and would win awards and stuff. However, now that I get enough protein, everything is WAY different. I am in far better shape than I ever was in high school, despite being 25 lbs. heavier. At 33, I look better and perform better than I ever did at 18, and it's all because of my protein intake.

there's me. i still got 80 pounds overweight too because of horrible eating habits which boiled down to eating too much too often  i started MFP at 224 with about 140-145 lean body mass

i have to say it's good that you're getting a handle on this now because at your age i had the same habits and didnt really start picking up weight until my 30's when i really started working desk jobs.

anyway, i'm still working on losing. i'm finding that the weight is coming off slowly in terms of the scale, but i'm losing a lot of fat so i'm slimming down. it's taken me a year to get to this point. i pretty much spent all of last year making better eating habits which resulted in losing 5 pant sizes but only 20 pounds.
