Heart rate

Hi,
I noticed my heart rate does not go that up while weight lifting. Does this mean my workout is not that effective?
Also, should I be burning as many calories during lifting than cardio, or it should be about the same?

Means nothing. Ignore your heart rate while lifting.
I strongly suggest you also ignore your heart rate while doing cardio, but that puts me in the minority around here0 -
It's almost impossible to gauge cals burned while lifting. In most cases, it's going to be less, probably half as much as cardio, but there are sooo many variables it's impossible to say for sure.
Your HR doesn't go up when lifting? At all? Even during the actual lifts? Mine goes way up during the lifts, then comes back down during rest.0 -
It does go a bit up.... but not as much as cardio0

I use my monitor during both activities. During lifting my heart rate will fluctuate greatly. Shoots up when I do a set and drops 30 bpm within a minute and then continues down from there. The burns calculated are much smaller because of those fluctuations, so I've no idea what an accurate calorie burn during lifting would really be. If your heart rate doesn't go up much while lifting perhaps the weight is not heavy enough?0

What kind of weight are you lifting? If your heart rate isn't going up at all, then you're not lifting heavy weights or pushing yourself enough. No, your heart rate usually won't be as high lifting as it is during cardio, however, that isn't why we lift. We lift weights to build muscle so you burn more calories while at rest as well as become stronger, healthier and leaner. IMO, people get too wrapped up with heart-rate.0
