Calories/week? Calories on rest days?

I workout 6 days a week. On those days I do pretty good. Occasionally I'm significantly over my calorie goal, but usually I'm pretty close to hitting it (maybe 100+ or -). I'm a runner and on long run days I'm usually under my calorie goal by a few hundred. Sundays are totally a rest day for me. I don't workout, I eat a big Sunday dinner with my family and lay around. Because of this Sundays are always way over my calorie goal. My question is, is it possible to average calories over the week? For example, if I'm 400 calories under on a long run day and 400 calories over on a rest day, is that ok? I've read all the posts about eating back calories. Does it have to be on the same day? I eat at least 1200 calories per day, usually more like 1400 or 1500, so I'm not starving myself on a day to day basis. I'm very close to my goal weight. I hit my first goal weight and maintained that for a couple months, now I'd like to lose just a few more pounds and firm up a bit.

yes, calories average out. In fact, that is the primary purpose of fat - energy storage. You are MOST concerned with creating a small, daily calorie deficit over a long period of time.

I agree with Gaucho, I work to a weekly target rather than a daily one, some days considerably over, some under. It all evens out over the week and so as long as I stick to my target calories, my body will recognise a deficit over a period of time.

    Good luck!
