So, my boyfriend (love him!) flushed this little toilet-bowl cleaner/freshener earlier this week. We thought it had passed through the pipes, but the toilet began to clog. Now, we can't use it. Thank goodness we have two bathrooms!
Well, we bought an auger. No luck with that at all!
We talked to a friend of a friend who is a plumber. He said he could get it loose for us, but it would be $125 - a little more than we'd bargained for. SO, he suggested we drain the toilet, remove it, spray water on the underside and try to get the object to come back through into the bowl. We're going to attempt that this weekend and have to buy a new seal.
I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and if they can offer us any tips? I'm new to plumbing. :flowerforyou:

You could remove the toilet, hoping that the freshener is close enough to pull out easily.
Personally, I'd pay the $125. Not a close friend? If I were a plumber, I would help out my friend out on something this minor gratis.0 -
is an auger the same as a snake??? Use a snake or drain the toilet and pour some bleach down there and let it sit
maybe it will eat away the cleanser thing0 -
In the last 2 months I just replaced 2 toilets in my house, and ready to do the 3rd.
It's very easy.
Shut off the water to the tank, then empty the water out of the bowl and tank, (with whatever means, cup, bucket etc) since it won't go down the drain.
Undo the 2-4 nuts/bolts that are holding down the toilet to the floor.
(If they are rusted, you might have to cut/break them and have to buy new bolts.)
Place a garbage bag on the floor which might help catch any leftover fluid.
Make sure you have a couple of towels around.
Lift off the toilet, and try to get the obstruction out.
While you are doing this, use another towel and stuff in the drain hole to prevent gases from coming back up.
Putting it back.
Make sure the bolts are in correct position, put down the wax ring, and then set the toilet down pressing evenly. Tighten the nuts.
Put more pressure (ie sit on it) , and make sure it's level. Make sure you don't tighten the nuts too tight or you can crack the toilet.
Turn back on the water.
Any questions, shoot me a PM.

Vallandingham - He's a friend of a friend and I've never actually met him.
sdwelk11 - Yes, the auger is the same as a snake. This one, though, is typically used to sink and tub drains. We don't have a toilet auger, but it's the same concept. Not sure if it will work, though. The bleach may be a good idea... it's pretty cheap, thin plastic. Hmmmm... or maybe a can of Coke ... it can eat nails, right? lol
tttthumper - You make it sound so easy. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Do you like turkey burgers? I'll make you some if you come do it for me! lol, thank you for the tips and link!
This weekend has been full of busy, so the toilet sits alone. We're planning on working on it next weekend... wish us luck!0 -
