This is the first time I have looked for help. Recently my thyroid went crazy-and I felt crazy while the doctors did all kinds of things to try to "help" me. They finally figured out my thyroid was on the fritz and took it out. My doctor told me to "re-boot" and get off all the medication. So I did and 2 months later SURPRISE - Baby No.2 comes along. I was 42. Now here I am at 43. I am starting AGAIN on the high protein/low card exercise and am feeling a bit scared it will not work. Anybody out there have any advise?

I commented on someone else's post, but thought I'd add it here too. Does your doctor test your free T3 and your free T4 to make sure your thyroid meds are a) the right ones and b) the right dose?

I've found that most people post-thyroidectomy (myself included) don't do well on T4-only meds like synthroid or levothyroxine. Your body struggles to convert it into the T3 hormone that you need to not be hypo. You can ask your doctor about adding a synthetic T3 like Cytomel, or about switching to a dessicated med that contains both T3 and T4.
