am I undereating?

I stick to my calorie goal daily of about 1600 calories. That daily with no exercise. I'm lightly active in my job and if I train I log it and try my best at eating back calories. I was looking at my charts the other day (the bar chart one with the line of where you are meant to eat to) and hardly near it some days!! What I'm a doing wrong?? Sorry to seem dump I'm new to this nutrition lark but do love reading about it on this forums. I read somewhere that I need to,work out TDEE and take 20% off and eat that many cals on no training days. Then log gym sessions and eat back cals. Is this right? I just need to know what my TDEE is... Also I reD somewhere that someone increased their Cal intake by 200 a day and started loosing weight. To me this seems unnatural as I always thought eat less + move more =weight loss. I cant get my head around tweaking the weight loss science.

Advice?? thanks from a n00b

Go here to figure out your TDEE. http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

This is a great calculator to figure it out. I have been told to decrease TDEE by 10-20%. If you are closer to goal weight pick 10%. This calculator includes your exercise. Eat the daily calories based on the goal you set. Good luck.
