Can you tell me about the taste? I hear it "tastes good", but can you substitute it for sugar without noticing?

I personally think its sweeter. I use less stevia than I would sugar because of that, which doesn't bother me. Its also "lighter" if that makes sense

Me too...I agree that it has a sweeter almost cleaner sort of taste to it.

i used to use a lot of Splenda [I know...Boo Hiss!] but then switched to Purevia and Truvia for when I want to keep my sugar calories lower

At the moment though I have tried to use Honey from my own bees instead as I just love the flavour [and it's nutritious and free!]
    Well worth the extra calories
Have 4 hives at the moment and am hoping to expand to 8 hives this year

PS can anyone tell me how to get my ticker to show my weight loss....I've only lost 2lbs here so far [5lbs before i joined MFP] but it would be nice if I could get my ticker to show the little loss I've had.
If you can help can you please send me a PM - I'm such a numpty when it comes to the computer! :blushing:

Was about to start a thread on the same subject as I've just bought some Truvia. Can you use it instead of sugar in baking? Are the results the same? How much less do you use?

I tried Stevia, both the powder & a 7 UP made with stevia. Possibly the most horrible thing I have ever tasted, it was horrendous! It is the 0cal Splenda tablets for me, only side is I find the replacement sweeteners a lot sweetener so where I used to use 2 tsp of white sugar, now I only need 1 Splenda tablet. None of them are as good as sugar but you will get used to them

Update-a coworker just gave me a packet of Stevia for my tea-it was really good (I see what you mean about being "lighter"). I don't know about baking-I'll probably stick with vegan sugar for that. But maybe the hubs can use it in his coffee, and me in my tea.

It does have an odd after taste though- to me at least!

It's sweeter than sugar so you don't need to use so much and it doesn't have that weird aftertaste that a lot of artificial sweeteners have :) I like it because it's natural and I know it's not harmful, I use it in everything!

It's very easy to use too much and end up with a strange taste. Almost bitter. I've tried so many different brands and types (Sweetleaf, Now, powdered, liquid, flavored liquid, etc.) I used to use Splenda A LOT, and wanted to use something a little more natural. I still have a love/hate relationship with Stevia, but the best tasting and sweetest I've found is the NuNaturals brand.

I'm not a huge sweet tea drinker but any time I've tried sweeteners they've rendered my drink undrinkable (sharp, chemically, bitter after taste). Except stevia, I find the after taste very mild and cleaner (at a push I would say slightly fruity) so I use that if I ever fancy a sweet tea.

I don't think I would've survived the last few months without my stevia! I live on decaf tea with stevia, sometimes hot tea with caffeine (not a coffee drinker). I get the liquid kind from a nearby health food store. The store brands don't taste right to me. My husband won't use it though at all, he does not like the taste. I've never tried baking with it, since no one likes it but me in my house.
