Making my diet run smoother

Ok, wasn't sure where to post this, but this was the closest catagory I could find:
The things I need to make my dieting/healthy eating run smoother are:
1.) A weight scale (a good one that is acurate, not a cheapy one that is off umpteen lbs everytime I step on it (talk about getting depressed)
2.) mega mega lots of measuring spoons and cups. I measure all my foods so I know I am not over doing it. What I hated was always having to wash the 1/2 C measurer just to re use it again and again. Same with the other sizes. (and I hate to do dishes.. ok I confessed one of my faults. oh I totally dread doing dishes . (do them cuz I have too. no one else is going to come over and do them for me.. LOL). So I learned to keep a measuring cup in my oatmeal (yup that's right, I just wiggle it down in there, so when I take that top off, there is my measuring cup I need. I do this with my box cereals too. fold that inner plastic wrap up, clip it with a small chip clip (to keep cereal fresh) and then stick the measuring spoon inside the box. When I want my Honey bunches of oats... walla, there is the measuring cup I need, right there, in my cereal.. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT.
I keep a 1/4 C (or serving size) in my shreeded cheese, an 1/8 C in my sunflower seeds. etc. This really helps me. It is right there, no searching, digging in my drawer trying to get the right size. Saves me time, frustration and prettier hands (less dish pan hands here and that is always good
3.) have a food scale on my counter. This helps when I am trying to guess a serving size that says.... 1 oz, or 4 oz etc. I use this for everything just about. I weight my 1 oz of peanuts (when I guestamate it, I end up actually with less than an oz.). I use it to weight my meats. (guestamating my meats is always higher than what the actual weight is). I put my dry spaghetti on there too. anything. Love my food scale and it keeps me accurate on my serving sizes.
4.) 3.) Always have a pen and tablet in the kitchen. For those times I need to jot down the values of the food label and don't feel like running the package to the computer as I look up the item in the MFP food data base.
5.) Always have a pen and small tablet on my computer desk, so when I go to make my food that is in the MFP food diary for that day, that I planned out the day before. I just jot down what I need to put in my salad (this helps when my time is short and I don't have time to put stuff in the food diary).
6.) Future purchase .. need to buy those sticky thingys with a chain that keeps your pen from running off. (All my pens end up in the kitchen . LOL
7.) Keep good supply of snack, sandwich and gallon size bags on hand. (I use the gallon size when I make my salads for work.. Who needs a bowl (just another dish to wash right? ). So I put my lettuce/spinach etc in that bag, drop in my chopped radishes, olives, tomato what ever I decide to put in that salad, seal it and shake it (now you have a mixed salad). then I always use a snack size bag for my salad dressing. I just put it in there, add a little water to stretch it out (dressing has so much sodium.. so I cut it down with water). Then I just mix the dressing/water right in the snack bag, roll it up and stick it inside the gallon bag with my salad (just in case it leaks ... so far have not had that happen yet). :noway:
8.) Always have my dog in the kitchen when I am cutting up my foods... It never fails, I always fling something on the floor. (yes it would be good for me to bend over and throw it away.. but hey, what are dogs for right? human food vacumes.
9.) a full length mirror.. Yes I hate my image too, but I am changing that image and now I am kinda checkin out that hot chick staring back at me.. humm, she's lost some weight I see. Face is skinner, wow, the tummy is smaller, Look at the toning happening on those arm muscles... Mirror is a must.
10.) Lots of chip clips. I like to use the clippy kind of paper clips (usually black with two swinging metal pieces you push to open the clip. The mini small ones are great for my frozen veggies (I will have 2 or 3 open bags in freezer .. I like variety.. keeps me happy with my eating healthy. I just roll that top of frozen veggies and clip that little bugger right on. Samll enough it doesn't get in way of storing the veggies in the freezer. These work good for my packages of ham I buy that don't have a re-sealer on it. just fold over the two corners, fold it down a few times and clip with a very small clip.
11.) AND this is a very big must... Must have a computer so I can get on MFP daily (few times a day even)... This site keeps me motivated, accoutable, and is making me some really nice friends.
Keep up the hard good work everyone... the pay off is well worth it in the end

This is a great list! I wonder what things everyone else could add to it that may help out some others?0

Looks great Rainey. Another use for the zip bags.....If you bring home things like cookies, chips, crackers, even candy. As soon as you get home, seperate it into serving sizes and put each serving in a snack size zip lock. Write on it the calorie count with one of those scripto markers. Put all the snacky foods into one big container (I use and old tupperwear cookie jar) When you pull one out to eat, when the baggie is empty, the snack is done. No more of the "oh just 1 more wont hurt" thing.
Since im a muncher this really helps keep me on track. No more of that..grab a handfull and eat, then another handfull and eat.
I love the measuring spoon in all the package idea. You can pick them up cheap at the dollar store just for that reason.
Keep up the good work. Your ideas and thoughs on this process are going to get you there.0 -
I'll even go so far as portioning out the foods I can tend to over eat. I love raw almonds & buy them bulk so it's easy to over do it. I measure them out into 1/4 c baggies. With cereals, its really easy to just keep grabbing a handful when you walk by the cabinet, so I measure it out into whatever a serving is (usually 3/4 or 1 c).0

I got the Eastsmart scale from Amazon for $36 bucks. It is great and is accurate every single time! I can get you a link for it if you want.0

Great ideas. I do need some more measuring cups and spoons. I'm always searching for the right one only to find it in the dirty dishes.
I have learned to portion out meat as soon as I get it home from the market. I portioned out ground beef into 1/2 lb packages. Wrapped them all in a bit of wax paper and then put them all into 1 large plastic bag. Then I can pull just one package to thaw out for a meal for my husband and I. If we have company I can always pull out additional packages.0 -
Wow, some really good idea's here. Love the one about putting the snacks in baggie and writing the info and then keep in a jar. Great idea. I too seperate my stuff when I get home from the market. EX: the pre cooked grilled chicken.. it has 7 servings of 3 oz's each. I get out 7 baggies and divide it up, then put back in to the original pacage and zip the top. Now I cook one at a time
I hope others put some great helping idea's here. This is some good stuff0 -
