So this is going to sound extremely strange, and some of you may not believe me but I have been going through therapy and treatment for this since I was a child... Here we go... I have "Picky Eater's Syndrome"... sounds made up right? Basically, I am a super taster, meaning I taste things that most people don't. If something is normally sweet to one person, then it is usually SUPER sweet to me, or the same with spicy and other feelings and sensations we get when we eat. This disorder causes me to not be able to eat many fruits or vegetables. The doctors tell me that the reason is that most fruits and vegetables have a bitterness to them that most of us cannot taste, but I can. I have tried mind over matter and as soon as I start to swallow...BAM it comes back up again. It is awfully embarrassing. I can eat corn, green beans, peas, artichoke, asparagus and that's about it in the vegetable world, and in the fruit world...none. I wish I could grab an apple and just eat it. Every couple of years I try after a few intensive therapy sessions with my doctor but it never seems to work.
I have to stick to plain things... For example, my pizza has to be plain, otherwise it has to have something plain on it like grilled chicken. I barely like ketchup, hate mustard, and cannot stand the texture of mayonnaise. Wow, I actually feel a lot better. Other than my husband, parents, and my doctors I have never said this to anyone before... At any rate I still want to get as much nutrition out of the things that I CAN eat, and this is where you guys come in. Do you have any recipes, motivation, or ideas that could help me? I'd really appreciate it!

Sounds like you have something we all want! Stick to a solid diet and keep it plain like you like. 5 days of week with cardio 3 times.0

There's no need to eat fruit, it's just sugar. You eat a pretty good range of vegetables, so you're good on that. What else do you eat? What fat and protein sources do you like? You can totally be healthy while sticking to your limited diet. I pretty much eat the same 10 foods over and over again. As long as you can enough fat, protein, and micros you'll have no problem.0

See a registered dietician.0

Firefox...I have been seeing a dietician regularly over the past five years because of my disorder. I was just curious as to what others do when they have things they cannot, will not, or chose not to eat for one reason or the other. Thank you for your advice justsomerandomgirl! I really appreciate it.0

Try hypnosis. Seriously, it can work for things like that! Find a highly qualified hypnotherapist in your area.0
