weigh in

How often should you weigh yourself as I have not weighed myself since I started on 15/01/2013. TBH I am actually scared as I am not exactly the healthiest eater and can't do much workout. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It is suggested to only weigh yourself at max once a week.. same time, same day, under the same circumstances to get the most accurate result.

Weighing frequently can discourage some who don't realize that your weight will change frequently due to hormones, foods, drinks, sodium, exercise, etc.

Many people weigh themselves once a week. I and others prefer to do it more frequently, in my case, three times a week.

It's up to you. Every day works for me, but not everyone. I would suggest having some way of measuring your progress, especially at the beginning. Otherwise you may not be doing what you need to do to reach your goals. The scale is one way, but you can also use a measuring tape, progress photos, the way your clothes fit, body fat percentage (if you can - that one's a bit more difficult).

Weekly weighers can be just as discouraged - if not more so - if they happen to weigh on a day when their weight is fluctuating upwards. Daily weighing can eliminate that frustration; if you gain water weight overnight, you see it disappear again just as quickly. Each to their own.
  • l also believe in weighing a couple times a week or more. Same time of day. Usually morning for me. If I don't weight can creep up easy or I get anxious. Also when starting take your measurements. Sometimes inches lost are more than pounds. This is coming from someone who before didn't weigh for months. I was in denial. That's when I was at my all time high of 248. Now 30 lbs lighter with recording, food, exercise and water.Being accountable for what I put in my mouth and why.

I weigh myself every day, and record it in a weekly planner. It's the only way I can stay on track.

I weigh every day. I just remember to engage in positive self talk -- that weight can and does fluctuate daily with water, sodium, hormones, and such. So if I see my weight go up a pound or two overnight, I don't panic. If I see a bigger gain, I can go back and look at what I ate, what I did, how I was feeling, etc. the day before. It's easy to get obsessed so you have to figure out what works best for you.
