Love handles!?

Hi everyone!!

So here's a bit of background info, I'm 5'8 (give or take). Heaviest: 155lbs current: 138lbs goal:125ish lbs. So far I am very happy with the results I am seeing, and starting to look toned! However I can't seem to lose these love handles!!

I need some advice! Exercises that will help!?

Thanks :)

Also please feel free to add me if you have similar stats, goals, or are just looking for friends!

The only way to take away your love handles is to lower body fat percentage. This is done mainly by lifting heavy weights while eating without a deficit.

Might be a good thing for you to start... eat at maintain, lift heavy weights. Weight training affects the shape of your body a lot more than cardio does.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "spot reducing". Or I'd have a smaller rear. *Sigh*

Yep, ditto on the spot reducing myth. If I had a magic want, I'd have a smaller waist - but it's just not meant to be so I'm cool with it.

Mine disappeared around 145, and I'm almost the same height as you. I do lift heavy and work out five nights a week.

I"m tall too...5 91/2... and i have love handles.. and i had to just lose all my weight and they went away. For years i thought it was part of my build..but i never lost all my weight...and that's the first place i gain.

You can't spot reduce fat...all you can do is burn it and your body decides where it's going to take it from. Usually the gut (at least for men) is the last to go. Ultimately, lifting will be the key to getting the body composition most are looking for. Essentially, you need to replace fat with lean body mass and the only way to do that is to lift. Killing yourself with cardio actually has the opposite effect...you actually burn more LBM and retain fat; I'm not saying cardio is a bad thing...it's like weight lifting for the heart and lungs...but it ultimately does very little in RE to body composition which is why so many end up being at a healthy weight but lacking much definition/tone and are usually still on the higher end of healthy BF%.

This but i will add... since you are close to under weight for being 5'8" its quite possible you may need to gain 10-20 lbs back of muscle to eliminate the appearance of this. I have seen many cases where a good bulk phase has provided greater results than cutting more.

sorry, her goal is at the lowest weight for her height. And at 125 lbs, even at 18% body fat, that would leave 105 lbs of lbm. Thats not huge amount for someone 5'8". Below is a link to what can happen when you gain muscle. Its not just about weight loss. Its about body composition.

I love handles! They make it easy to pick things up and move them from one location to another. :)

Yeah, I'd rather be 140lbs with good definition from heavy lifting than 110 and skinny fat. OP - look into getting some weight training in :flowerforyou:
