My name is Courtney and I'm back on MFP because 2013 is MY year!
I have used this program to keep track of what I eat on and off for the last 2 years.
I started gaining weight after High School. With not being involved in sports anymore, I slowly started to gain weight. I didn't go to college right away; that first year I spent working. I stayed busy so I didn't gain a whole lot but once I started back to college the following year, it packed on. I also started working night shifts while going to school because I needed the income. Dr. Pepper is my weakness and when you're working nights, you HAVE to bring food with you or you binge on the vending machines. There were many nights I forgot my food =(
I stayed in long term relationships, so once we hit a certain length of time together I started getting comfortable. I did my absolute best with eating and exercising when things would get rocky and we would go separate ways. Something about it just being you again makes you want to be better.
At one point I hit my highest weight ever - 180. I was devastated. I couldn't go to nice places because my "dressy" clothes wouldn't fit. I remember plenty of times just crying in the closet feeling so hopeless. I would do really well with losing weight for a month or two and then slip back into old habits. This yo-yo lifestyle, unfortunately, became my norm.
After ending a pretty rough on and off relationship, I lost about 20lbs and went to Texas that summer to visit family. I met my now husband on that trip. He is active duty Air Force and so we spent the first year of our relationship long distance. 1200 miles long distance. I was in my Nursing Clinicals at that time and between that and not being where my heart truly wanted to be I gained weight again!
I finally couldn't take it anymore and decided I was going to move where he was. I could pick school back up anywhere. So I made the trip down here to Louisiana. Well, his 3 meals a day / meat and potatoes / Southern cooking lifestyle didn't agree with my body. Over the course of a few years, I managed to get back up to that dreaded highest weight ever.
Last Spring I got Insanity and started eating healthy again. I was AMAZED at the results. In 2 months, I lost 20lbs!! I was feeling GREAT! I had more energy, I looked forward to my workouts, I just felt like a new me! Then the summer months came and let's just say that Louisiana summers are nothing to bat an eyelash at! The humidity here nearly kills you! I got busy being out and about and just stopped exercising and then the poor food choices came creeping back.
I started back to school this Fall and was working when I could. There were times I'd be sitting in class and get a text saying work needed me. So I'd rush home after class, grab something to eat on the way and head to work. Instead of making lunches ahead of time (because sometimes I didn't know when they'd need me), I 'd pick up fast food on the way to work. Ultimately, packing back on the pounds =(
Here it is 2013 and I said enough is ENOUGH! I need to create a lifestyle that I can MAINTAIN and STOP this yo-yo-ing that I do so well apparently!
People always tell me they can't really tell when I gain weight. I know it's just because I do carry it pretty well; which is a blessing and/or curse depending on how you want to look at it. I carry it in my thighs, butt and hips. I don't really notice it's becoming a problem until it moves to my belly, face and arms. Then I go into "breakdown" mode.
I've managed to lose some weight since the beginning of the year. I was doing really well slowly getting back into things. I plan to start Insanity back up in the next week or two. I have set small goals to help motivate me to lose weight different times throughout the year. The first one being that I am a bridesmaid in my friends wedding in the beginning of April! So I definitely need to get a move on!!
Anyone have any great healthy recipe ideas that their spouses/families don't know are healthy and low fat? I've got a hubby who is lucky when it comes to his weight. He maintains within a 10lb variance of his normal at all times. He eats whatever and still is passing his PT tests so why would he want to change? lol
