seeing a nutritionist?

has anyone seen a nutritionist before? what was your purpose and how did they help? just wondering if it's worth it; did they tell you what your actual bmi/bmr was or an ideal eating schedule?

Pretty sure I saw the worst nutritionist on the planet, so maybe I'm not the best person to respond to this if it is something you're looking into. About a year ago, I was struggling with what I called an unhealthy food obsession. I wasn't just counting, I was beating myself up over everything that went into my body. I made the decision to see a local nutritionist, they ran a ton of tests. Checked my thyroid, an EKG, my body fat percentage, bmi....all of it. I was mortified with the numbers so I was willing to do whatever it took at that point. I was given a strict diet plan of NO more than 15 grams a fat a day and 1400 calories. If you count calories at all, you know how incredibly low 12 grams of fat is per day. Let me be honest when I say, YES I lost weight and rather quickly but I felt like death on a daily basis. When I explained my issues to him ( fatigue and gastrointestinal issues), all he could think to recommend
were B12 injections and laxatives. Also, if I wasn't losing weight he would tell me I lied to him or his staff about what I ate. So rude.
The best thing I got out of it was to know what NOT to do.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying all nutritionists are the same but if you need help with meal planning there are plenty of really good websites that can help you. MFP being one of them. If you just want your numbers, your pcp can help with that.

    Good luck!
