Converting kj (kilojoules) to calories

Lots of European foods here in Japan have the energy content listed in kj just where kilocalories ("calories") go on British or US lists, i.e., right at the top. I assumed this was just a different European term for the same thing, but the quoted value looked too high for the Elderberry concentrate I bought from IKEA. (This makes a delicious drink when diluted 6:1 with water.) When I checked, I found that you have to divide the kj (kilojoules) figure by FOUR to get calories (kilocalories). I wish I could divide the sugar content by four, too, as it was surprisingly high.
