Sugar

I am a little over 5' 2" and weigh 188 pounds. When I started MFP two years ago, I was at 232ish. On days that I workout, I try to consume around 1500 calories. More sedentary days, I intake at least 1200. I drink about 100 ounces of water or so everyday. I try to keep all refined sugar out of my diet (still weaning it out of my coffee though). How concerned should I be about natural sugar intake, like from fruits? I read somewhere that a person of my body type, or size, should not eat a lot of fruit. But if I eat a cup of cantaloupe or an orange, it is a lot of sugar. Should I worry about this? I've never been a sweet eater, but I carry most of my weight in my belly and if too many fruits are going to hinder that bulge disappearing, is there an alternative when that sweet tooth does hit?

Fruit is a fine way to satisfy a sugar craving. They do have a lot of sugar, but they also provide a lot of nutrition. If you want to keep your sugar from spiking, just have the fruit with something high in fiber or protein.0

I carried all my weight in my middle too. I did a little dance with the Devil for a couple years looking for a loophole.
Really, I just had to stop with the frruit. Well, I still have one or at most two pieces of whole fruit a day. But I used to have it three or four times a day.
Cutting back slowly is what works. The grains and fruits are a sometimes thing now; not every meal and snack.0 -
What works for me is staying away from sugar refined or natural...a bit like sodium I try to steer clear of it as much as possible.
Try to keep in the MFP guide lines or you can google for lots of info on sugar and make your own mind up?
You will always get lots of conflicting answers to any question you ask.
You will find what works for you and if it is fruit then go for it x0 -

Think of the food pyramid, 5 fruits and veggies a day. We all seem to want to eat the fruits more because they are sweet. But try this eat just 2 fruits a day and add all the veggies you want. Even add a low cal dressing to some raw veggies to just give a little extra flavor. The veggies will give you more energy to help burn off any excess sugar. Cut veggies a head of time and put in sealed containers to last a few days. That way you have the conveintly at your finger tips, Make the fruits your "dessert for the day"0

Fruit and veg is fine. Avoid or reduce processed sugars like sweets and cakes.0

It really is going to depend on your body. It does seem that those with central obesity do better when being careful with the sugar and other carbs. I know that helped me a great deal. However, I don't have any trouble with the sugar in fruit. I can eat any fruit of any kind with no problems. Refined sugar, the white, the corn, and all that I can't do without problems. Stevia, xlylitol, and small amounts of agave I can do and I'm going to trial coconut/palm sugar at some point too. To find out you can eliminate the sugar from your coffee and fruit for a period of time and then slowly add the fruit back in, one at a time and in small quantities at first, beginning with the less sugary, while noting how it makes you feel and what affect it has on your weight. If it makes no difference that is terrific and f it does you will know what you need to watch out for and where that limit is.0
