Am I eating too little? Help! :-/

Hi everyone,
I'm really struggling at the moment... I'm eating well, trying to do as much exercise as possible (I've recently had an injury so have been out of loop a bit...) etc etc, but i've put on 5lbs, and my bra size has gone up 3 cups, when it's been the same for years! I don't understand... My PT thinks it may be hormonal and i should see the doc, but i'm not sure. I'm eating between 1200-1300 cals usually, is this too little? or should I lessen it?
any words of wisdom will be very gratefully received! I'm feeling really fed up at the moment, and just don't know what to do, especially as i'm getting married in may 2014, and need to be super fit for it!! :-(
Thanks,
Mel. :-)

If you've gained 3 bra sizes and you haven't been eating more than 1200 cals, I'd talk to your doctor.

are you pregnant? Bra size going up 3 sizes at age 30 does sound hormonal.

My first thought was that you might be pregnant also. But I'm sure there are other things that could cause that. I have never heard of eating too few calories causing your breasts to grow though, so you should see a doctor to find out what is going on.

Definitely don't eat less!! Go to your doc, talk about all of it and have him/her help you figure out a good plan for your fitness! Good luck!

I'm going to agree with the pregnancy thing... Even if it isn't, have a hormone test or something, because three bra sizes in five pounds isn't normal.

I went up a bra size but a lot of that was due to the chest exercises I have been doing. Not sure what your workouts are like but it might be you are building muscle in your chest. Not sure about three sizes though, that sounds like a lot, unless you were way under previously on what size you thought you were. I would consult a Dr. also, just to be sure.

I agree with those saying to talk with your doctor.

My bra size shot up a few cups (B to DD) when I changed birth control pills - I hadn't changed food or exercise but my insurance changed so brands got switched around. I'm slowly going down now that I've stopped the pill but it definitely had me worried.

If there is no chance that you are pregnant, I would most definately get to the doctor as soon as possible. There are several things that can make a bra size go up that much and to be honest, not all of them are pleasant to think about. Set that appointment or take a pregnancy test!

How long has the Bra size thing taken....? it sounds like it was pretty quick and is therefore very unlikely to be weight related, get that checked out.

As for the 1200 to 1300 cals issue, if this is your net cals you should be fine, if your net is alot lower you might want to increase you intake but whatever you do don't reduce your cals any lower than this.

There's a good chance this sudden weight gain ia a temporary glitch so get yourself to the docs and if it is because you are suddenly feeding two then good luck with that!!

I would call most definitely hormonal. If you are eating a lot of soy (natural source of estrogen), that could contribute to off balance hormones. High estrogen levels are common with swelling of breasts. Get to a doctor and take a hormone test (Blood spot if possible, much more accurate than the spit tests).

Take an at home pregnancy test, if it's positive then you are pregnant. If it comes out negative you could still be pregnant so go get a pregnancy test done by your doctor.... If you still aren't pregnant then keep taking to your doctor. Don't ignore the changes in your breasts. I only went from a B to a D over the course of 40 lbs.

If you are asking, then the answer is almost definitely YES

Take a look at the following link to assess your calorie needs.

This! .. It might be pregnancy, it might be the birth pill if you recently changed brands or something.. All i know is if the changes were sudden then most likely it's not food related, it's hormone related .. Unfortunately LOL you'll have to go see a doctor to know exactly what's going on

Get your thyroid checked. TSH, T3 and T4 all need to be evaluated. Find a good endocrinologists to work with you. I had problems when I worked out too much. It throws it off for some reason. Make sure you are "actually" eating 1200-1300 cals a day. I keep my workouts to 45 minutes a day and vary my intensity. Several intense workouts in a row does not work for me. I usually shoot for about a 200-300 cal workout. Sometimes it's only 150 cals. You didn't mention how tall you are or activity level. Try to focus on eating healthy. Really pay attention to portion sizes. Measure every thing. Have one starch(80-100cals) per meal. Fill the rest out some protein and veggies. Two fruits per day max. Use a salad plate instead of a regular dinner plate. Protein should be 3oz. for lunch and dinner. One ounce for breakfast. have two dairy servings a day as well. I like light soy milk with frozen fruit and half a scoop of "designer" whey protein for breakfast. Light soy milk has 50 cals per cup so I use two cups for my smoothies. Good luck!

The breast thing is likely unrelated to your reduced calories. Get it checked out. I doubt it is pregnancy since usually your boobs don't get bigger before you realize you are pregnant..... but it is possible. There could be other reasons that you definitely need to get checked out.

No, you eat below TDEE but above BMR.

BMR is the amount they would feed you if you were in a coma. TDEE is the amount where you would not gain or lose, also known as "maintenance" calories.
