Staying off chocolate

I'm really missing naughty foods (chocolate especially).
Can anyone advise on a 4 o'clock fix as if I start on chocolate
or biscuits I won't stop

Why stay off chocolate? Just stay off heavily sweetened chocolate. Try a nice piece of dark chocolate to see if that works for you.

Most Americans (and I am one) don't realize that bitter is one of our five base tastes and that it is quite enjoyable if done right.

Dark chocolate doesn't do it for me I'm afraid

I agree, dark chocolate is preferred...but, if you are trying to avoid it in "pure form" maybe try having a Greek yogurt with some cocoa powder mixed in or even sugar free/fat free chocolate pudding. I personally lean towards a good protein bar with chocolate and peanut butter - makes me feel fuller for longer. :)

so buy just enough and fit it into your calorie limitations. You don't have to torture yourself

Lindt 86% or higher dark chocolate
    Endangered Species 88% cocoa.

The higher the cocoa, the better the chocolate and the more satisfied you'll be with a square of it. Milk chocolate may be heavenly, but the sugar and fats hide the chocolatey goodness that you could still be eating with the dark.

If you don't actually like dark chocolate it's probably simply the combination of fat and sugar you are craving which might suggest you are undereating for your activity level, skipping breakfast or eating the wrong foods earlier in the day so your blood glucose is spiking and dipping. Have healthy filling snacks with you at all times - dried fruit, nuts and seeds - don't carry any cash or cards, don't keep chocolate in the house, don't go near your triggers such as vending machines or corner stores, drive or walk a different route if needs be.
