Fish and chips

I had a small fish and chips from a fish n chip shop. MFP estimates it at 690 kcals, does this sound about right? Obviously it was deep fat fried, I had small cod in batter with chips. I thought it'd be more than this?

Thoughts?

I did the same - I just thought "bonus" and got on with my day.

I did pick most of the batter off though (because I find it a bit claggy) so I guess that reduced the calories by a tiiiiny fraction...

Haha yeh i'm thinking "oooo what else can i eat?"!

I don't eat them often so i'm not worried about it i just wondered as it seemed fairly low.

I ate all the batter and half the bag pretty much that got stuck to it! All extra nutrients!

For small, that might even be a little high, depending on how small. I only entered half again as much for my fish and chips last weekend, and I am not claiming it was small (I used four "fried fish fillets" and two "small fries").

Sounds about right to me....I had fish 'n chips from a local brew pub here in town...it was two beer battered fillets and the chips and their nutritional info sign said it was about 1,200 calories...think it was like 1,176 or something.

Guess it would depend on how small is small...but I tend to assume the worst...and I know that fish 'n chips are a pretty high calorie indulgent food.

I think it's right. I did a lot of research into this as I like fish and chips and have them after a big day in the hills. I used several sources/govenment/indutry etc to come up with the figures that I have entered as:

"UK Chip Shop Takeaway - Fish, Chips and Peas"

This was taken from studies that took samples from fish and chip shops using the latest oils, average chip size/portion size etc.

Your estimate sounds right for a small without peas (which added about 100 calories).

Now I feel good about my usual modus operandi which involved Large fish, mushy peas and small chips.

I pick a lot of batter off - after the first few mouthfuls. Nobody else will touch mushy peas so I nom all them and my toddler eats a lot of my chips.....
