Cigarrettes & Junk Food.... If I can, so can you.

Okay well let me start off by saying I love chips, I love fries, I love burgers, I love chili cheese, I love fried pickles, I love fried ANYTHING. I also loved to smoke. Yes the smell was annoying and the way I would have to constantly wash my hands, spray body spray on my clothing, the smell in my car lingering (even though when i bought my new car I swore I wouldnt smoke in it), and feeling like I HAD to have it.

So I started the year off like every year.. Im going to... but I didnt.

Then about a week and a half into the year I woke up one morning and decided I had enough of being controlled by my habits. I didnt stop for cigarettes that morning. I instead got a pack of beef jerky and a bottle of water. Why beef jerky? I dont have a clue... I just thought it would be a good distraction. My co-workers smoke & I resisted the ENTIRE day. So this continued over the next few days until I stopped eating beef jerky... I got a little nausious here and there but overall I felt GREAT. So then I decided, if I can quit smoking cold turkey I have ZERO excuses not to put on those tennis shoes and get out there and RUN! I downloaded Couch-To-5k on my iphone and have been giving it my all every other day. I am up to a mile and a half running with a total distance of 2.30 miles including the times I power walk. I started doing smoothies for breakfast, The Mean Green Spinach Smoothie, Berry Smoothies full of antioxidants, Protein Smoothies... I mix them up so I dont get tired of them.

I also decided if I could quit smoking I could quit my junk food habit. I WILL NOT eat anything that I cant read the label on and know exactly what something is. Nothing that isnt in its purest form. I put together a power point presentation of women in shape, abs, glutes, sexy arms.. and posted it on my fridge with a note saying "Do you really want to eat that?" , I made a binder.. I put exercises together and new healthy recipes, smoothie recipes, and motivational sayings... I started shopping the perimeter of the grocery store and working out every single night, including weekends. On weekends its a little harder because I am with my toddler son the entire time, but I just put him in his stroller and walk. We are up to 4 miles at about a 4.5 MPH pace.

So whats the change? I can breathe, I can smell, AND I have lost 4 lbs and 6 1/2 inches off my body in just a little over a week and a half. IF I CAN, SO CAN YOU :) I just wanted to share this.. for anyone who might have been in the same situation... :) If I can do all of this in just over a week and a half... what can you do?

Good for you for quitting smoking and starting exercise.

That being said, "junk" food is not evil. I have no desire to give it up nor do I need to. Everything in moderation. Unless of course, you have an allergy or intolerance.
  • Junk food is evil... its full of chemicals. In no way shape or form is it healthy. No matter how you break it down. Yes you can gorge yourself on horrible food and then bust your *kitten* in the gym to burn it off, but I am a firm believer that processed foods are the reason for so many illnesses. Eating clean is how we were meant to eat... god didnt create cheetos. Increase in diabetes, increase in cancer.. Increase in the amount of processed foods .... doesnt take a rocket scientist.
