Scooby said that my BMR is 985. I'm a little bummed.

By age, height, weight Harris or Mifflin BMR, or by body fat Katch BMR?

Katch BMR using body fat and LBM would be more accurate for you. Just in case you maintained more LBM through the years than avg gal your age, weight, height.

I'm not so much concerned about losing muscle mass (I don't care if I'm skinny fat), I'm more concerned about having a hard time keeping the weight off long term, if I continue eating so low.
    Thanks!

Those 2 things don't go together, because the reason people rebound so bad and gain back so easily - is because they lost muscle mass.

The reason the metabolism for older folks is generally slower isn't because the body finally figured out how to get more efficient doing the basic things of life - it's because as you get older the avg population loses muscle mass.

Those are tied together, having muscle mass and keeping it off.

You should be concerned about being skinny fat, because it makes it more difficult to eat so little and not gain fat on little splurges here and there.

I mean, indulge in a 200 calorie dessert, with low metabolism that is extra and stored as fat. With high normal metabolism it just raises slightly and helps burn it off.

    Sorry, you lost me again.
I was under the impression that if I eat too low calories, it will screw up my metabolism and make it harder for me to keep the weight off long term. That is the only reason I wanted to increase my calories.
If you are saying that won't make a difference in me keeping the weight off, then what will make a difference?

That is what heybales is saying. You are screwing up your metabolism because you are catbaolizing your lean muscle mas which makes it easier to gain back weight.

Catabolic = the state of breaking down, whether it's fat or muscle. In your case, if you eat too little, you will catabolize both muscle and fat. Catabolizing lean body mass can hurt weight/fat loss efforts. When you lose lean body mass, you end up with less support for your body (joints, ligaments especially), your metabolism will slow down, your immune system won't be as strong, you won't have as good insulin resistance (this is how skinny people get diabetes II) etc... LBM = key to health.

Anabolic = the state of growth . This is the opposite of catabolic.

You obviously don't understand how most of this works and why you need to do certain things, which is ok, but why not follow the program as designed. Heck, we gave you the numbers you need to eat and what you should do if you exercise, so why not follow it? If you don't work out, eat 1500 calories, if you do workout, eat 1500 + exercise calories. Bales and I have both help hundreds of people on this board and I am amazed why people ask advice then give us crap without even trying it for a month or two. You are not morbidly obese, or even obese, you are more overweight. Even if your weight class shows you slightly obese, you are barely in there. There is NO reason to fear food. The more you fear it, the more likely you will develop an eating disorder. If you treat it like fuel, then you will become fit and lean. Below is a link, would you rather look like the girl on the left or right?

I would be 1000% ok looking like the girl on the left. Aside from looking better, there are other reasons I want to lose weight - basically to feel more comfortable about myself and the way my clothes fit. If I looked like the girl on the left, that would be a HUGE improvement over what I look like now, and how I feel about how I look now. So no, I don't need to look like the girl on the right to feel good about myself. And either way, I'd be MUCH healthier than I am currently.

I know what Catabolic means. You wrote Catbaolizing and I had no clue what you meant.
