Trouble getting my weight to move...

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable since I lost 100lbs over 15years ago, and nutrition/exercise and such has become my passion/hobby... however, I'm at a loss for why my weight is not budging.

In July I did a food allergy testing and found I was sensitive or allergice to gluten, dairy, corn, soy, among other things. My C-Reactive Proteins were high and I had a candida issue. I started going gluten free, corn free, dairy free, soy free, sugar free....and basically to a Paleo type diet. I saw very little weight loss.... even with all those changes.

Because I wasn't seeing significant changes with my weight especially with the dietary changes I have performed several tests with my doctor. 1) Food Allergy 2) Saliva/Cortisol/Dhea testing --testing hormones etc.. 3) Testing and supplementation for my C-Reactive Protein and candida issues.

I even went on a more strick Paleo diet called Whole 30 for 30 days and didn't loose a pound. I'm now really at complete frustration as to what is going on in my body. I have made many sacrifices with my diet, I continue to exercise and participate in events but still no luck.

I have switched back and forth with upping my calories, decreasing my calories for a month or so...when I upped I definintely noticed a weight gain.

I'm not opting to do 1200 (net) calories a day to see if I can jump start my weight loss...when I work out I do eat back my calories to create the net of 1200k for the day....since your body can not function on 600 k alone..

Is anyone else facing these type of issues, having problems etc? I will say I'm only on ONE medication, it is a thyroid medication that I take daily....aside from that I use herbal supplements and vitamins.

how much do you weigh? how tall are you? how old are you? I'm 5'2-3/4" . I just turned 49 (the breaks went on about 10 years ago-it's very hard for me to lose any weight now; I have to work doubly hard). I weighed just about 170 starting out in Oct. For me, it takes a TON of working out initially to lose weight on 1400 cal/day in general. In Oct I put the 1400/day up; haven't followed it as it turns out don't need to because with Paleo I'm always full. I have not weighed my self since Jan 1 so I can't tell you how much I have lost currently. Prior to that in Nov & Dec. my weight fluctuated quite a bit; overall I think I had lost about 9 pounds. The meds u r taking might have something to do with your lack of loss (?). In general, just try to go with how your clothes feel on you. If you are staying the same that way...I just don't know, but if you're moving towards smaller sizes, I would not worry about it. Muscle does weigh more than fat. I am just speaking here from my experience too; every person's body is different. :)

I'm 5'5 and weigh about 218lbs. I was at one time stable at about 175 and felt wonderful...I am 36 years old, so I realize as I get older it gets more difficult. I do a lot of weight training...and I wear around a size 12/14. I know that I carry alot of muscle but would like to see some of the other weight loss and get under the 200 marker again....it's exceptionally frustrating, especially with as disciplined as I've been. and it's frustrating when I see so many others loose so easily... *sigh*

I am trying to find someone to piece together all the information I've gotten with the various testing....the only meds I'm on is Synthroid which when the thyroid is off it will hinder weight loss..perhaps its time to see the doc again and have it rechecked...it alway seems that its a fight with the physicians. I know I'm doing everything right on my end, and I can say that with no lies...especially at this point in my life lol....all my other blood work is fantastic, my cholesteral is wonderful, blood sugar was good, with the allergy testing I've learned what foods to avoid, and I've even done a saliva testing to check my female hormones... I did talk with a friend who is a trainer and she's suggested that it might take a month for me to see anything since my body might need to see the consistancy....so maybe I have to just wait it out.

Get your thyroid checked again and maybe look at being kind to your body for a while; C-reactive protein, stress and inflammation are all strongly interlinked. By stress I don't just mean life events, but imbalanced diet (not your fault if you had health problems), poor sleep patterns, smoking, drinking, over exercising, dieting and so on. The frustration in your posts is leaping out at me. How often do you cycle through easy or active recovery weeks with your exercise regime?

Has a registered dietician looked at your strict paleo and checked it's balanced? Are you eating loads of oily fish, organ meats, nuts and seeds or mainly meat and veggies? With so many food groups eliminated it can be difficult to get a balance of all the nutrients especially minerals and of course you may well not have been absorbing properly beforehand. You lose minerals in sweat, and stress/ illness increase your needs of a raft of nutrients. Nutrient deficiencies can be linked to thyroid issues and candida, magnesium for both IIRC.

If you carry a lot of muscle have you calculated your BMR based on your lean mass not total body weight, and calculated your TDEE based on your actual activity level from a heart rate monitor?

Hi FIrefox7275..... Good advice, my doc does have me on some meds to help with "stress" based on a saliva/homorne testing that I did. In addition to taking 7-keto DHEA because my levels were low. I do probably exercise too hard. I am typically in the gym 5-6 days a week.... On certain days I will spend 2 hours in the gym....this might include doing 60 mins of a cycling class, then hitting the weights after... I know it's probably too much, I guess I was taking the approach of making my body work hard to kick it off this plateau it's on.

I will look into a nutritionist, I have always been leary of them since A LOT of them want to follow the US Guidelines, which I totally don't agree with lol... so I need to find someone who'll understand my approach to foods and the ones I've eliminated. I have seen a drop in my "numbers" since I first started with my new doctor (who is more homopathic in her approach). My C-Reactive proteins have continued to drop, and I note that they drop relatively slowly but its still progress.

Through my gym, I did perform a Resting Metabolic Rate/Caloric burn or TDEE (funny I didn't know what that meant at first lol)... the test involved just sitting in a dark room breathing into a mask thing while the machine recorded my results. Based on what the test and my trainer stated, I burn about 1430 cals at rest...she advised probably another 300-400 cals for light activity -- meaning getting up, moving, light activity through the day, so she estimated 1800 cals (not including exercise). I tried raising my caloric intake at one point, but that only resulted in gaining weight. WHICH coupled with a thyroid issue, I wasn't surprised since the thyroid messes with the metabolism anyway.

I have not calculated my BMR based on lean muscle mass, and will definitely check into it. Thanks for all the feedback!!
