Spin Class Calories

I take a weekly spin class that is pretty intense. Each week is a little different. Any suggestions on how to calculate calories for an hour long class?

Get an HRM if you want to maximize your accuracy.0

Agree w/cyberiarob...I take spin 3x a week, and I can sort of guage it if I get the same bike...but some calculate better than others, and I don't trust MFP's estimations at all. Instructor always suggests a HRM to get a true reading.0

My average when spinning is 100 calories per ten minutes, so MFP isn't that far off, actually! I have a MyZone belt which I wear and this shows you your calories, heart rate etc. as you exercise in your gym facility. The men in the classes tend to get to about 1000 calories in about an hour or so, if that helps.0

Get a HRM, I found that depending on the instructor and the bike I had I could burn anywhere between 400-580 calories in a 45 minute class. I generally found that the bikes underestimated the calories by 200, whereas MFP overestimated by 150ish0

on short classes i stay up in the anerobic zone and i come out dripping and usually hit 1000 cals net ( minus 200ish for true burn), on longer classes i stay in endurance and burn slightly less.... i say hour classes are too long for hardcore spinning!
