Feeling discouraged by my choices... advice?

So I went to Boudin today for lunch with my friend from work - last minute change from my planned low cal lunch. Normally I would always have a clam chowder bread bowl from there but wanted to make a smarter choice. While looking at the menu I decided on a soup/salad combo: the half portion of the spring salad and a tomato soup (sans croutons and no bread bowl and asked for dressing on the side). The meal ended up coming with dressing on the salad and a side of bread. I did eat about 2/3 of the bread which was stupid (sourdough is a weakness). I get back to my desk and look up the nutrition facts on the Boudin website and calculate that I ate 808 calories on lunch alone. Ironically, a clam chowder bread bowl is 480 calories. Now I have 342 calories for the rest of the day and it's only 2pm. I'm feeling SO frustrated with myself and am concerned that I will say F#@% it to the day and just eat a big dinner anyways.

Any advice on how to not let this happen. I know the motivation needs to come from within but....

#! Don't sweat it today, this is long term and one meal won't make you or break you. Especially since you presumably already have a deficit. Set it to maintenance level today and let it go, for today.

#2 Always try to look up your options before you go.

#3 If something doesn't come to you the way you ask, send it back. But politely, always politely.

#4 Gauge how hungry you are for dinner, then eat to that. You may not be hungry. But if you are, there is probably a reason.

    Chillax!!
Focus on the positives - you may have eaten more calories, but they were high-quality calories (nutrient-dense). Go easy on yourself!

I've mentally kicked myself for calorie packed, pretty average food from restraunts. (I'll take the extra calories if it's an amazing meal) You just move on and do better tomorrow.

Try looking at your total calories for the whole week and you probably won't be over by more than 50 to 100 calories or so.

I will sometimes eat something, get home and check the nutrition information, and realize with a facepalm that I've eaten up a HUUUUGE chunk of my daily allowance.

Those days I just deal with the overdraft, go over my goal, and make a note to check out that restaurant's options better. I still trip myself up somedays, but I'm getting better. You will, too.

1 day of eating good won't make you a model, therefore it's only fitting one day of overeating won't make you fat either ;) Just jump back on the ball the next day and put the past where it belongs, in the past :D
  • 800? Thats it? " I eat pieces of *kitten* like that for bre-" oh sorry, thought of Happy Gilmore there.

Yeah really, dont sweat it. I am pretty sure that if you died tomorrow, that salad would not be the thing to send you to hell.

If nothing else, just exercise half of that off. bang. done. It will take you an hour. I mean, if it helps you sleep....
  • BTW...when faced with Clam Chowder or Salad, 10 times out of 10 I am going with the Chowder. Salads are horrible unless they are more than 1500 calories, like at Hometown Buffet or something.

And I am from Sacramento, Worked for Nor Cal AAA for a few years out there. Walnut Creek is a pretty fancy neighborhood!

It happens. Just get back at it and keep kicking *kitten*. Also remember what a wise man once said...."tomorrow's a latter day!"

Quit making poor choices. Take a lunch from home, only eat what's in the lunch box.
  • I do want to point out that social situations weight heavily on what we eat, especially if they can afford to eat out every single lunch. Of course, we have to keep up appearance and save face to keep in that ring, because it would be awful if you decided to not eat out.

Gandhi always said, "be the change you want to see in the world." It was moments like these that he was talking about.
