Running

I have a two part question here. Because of the cold, I've been forced to move my workout indoors and use my elliptical rather than running outside.

My first question is, does anyone know after how many days of not running in a row will I begin to lose my "running fitness" so to speak?

Secondly, I am still using my ellipitical for the same amount of time that I would normally run. While I know that the ellliptical is not the same or as good of a workout as running, am I losing my "running fitness" as quickly becuase I am still working out in a cardio capacity?

Any comments are appreciated.

It takes about 2 weeks of doing nothing before you start to lose significant amounts of running fitness.

Using the elliptical will maintain much of your aerobic fitness. You will probably lose some muscular conditioning in the legs but that will come back fairly quickly as long as you get back to running within around 4 weeks or so.

If you can get some good walks done in the meantime that will probably help maintain the legs.
